Phelps Clears Throat: More Broadcasters, No Extra Horsepower!

NASCAR President Phelps Discusses Future Plans

In a forthcoming update by President Steve Phelps, there will be changes in the NASCAR landscape. Mr. Phelps, during the fourth annual Race Industry Week series of webinars, marked by its 45-minute breadth, hinted at a significant change for the 2025 season – the addition of at least one new company to broadcast Cup races.

This tantalizing revelation, yet to have a formal announcement, indicates that NBC and Fox are expected to remain race broadcasters alongside the newcomer. Phelps believes that an augmentation in media rights fees will be material to racing teams as they intend to have their charter agreement with NASCAR extended beyond the 2024 season.

However, amidst the anticipated changes, Phelps insists that an increase in horsepower isn’t on the cards. “I don‘t think the answer is more horsepower because more horsepower is expensive,” he remarked, adding that teams should consider alternative solutions such as gear adjustments.
