Santiago Tovar’s Quest for the Playoffs: NASCAR Mexico’s Second Half Begins

San Luis Potosí is buzzing with anticipation as the second half of the NASCAR Mexico season is set to commence. This phase is crucial, as drivers from the premier automobile category in Mexico are vying for a coveted spot in the playoffs. Among them is Santiago Tovar #22 from the Canel’s /Logitech G/Laboratorio Tequis/Trejo Promotion Team. Despite facing challenges throughout the season, Tovar remains optimistically positioned within the general qualifier.

Tovar’s journey with the team has seen its fair share of highs and lows. Recent races, like the one in Puebla, showcased his potential. However, unforeseen circumstances, such as on-track contacts, hindered his performance, resulting in an eighth-place finish. Nevertheless, the 36 points he secured during the sixth race of NASCAR Mexico have proven invaluable. They have propelled him from the eleventh to the eighth position, tying him with two other racers. This trio is now in a tight race for the sixth spot, with Tovar just two points shy of the top five and 69 from the lead.

Sharing his thoughts, Santiago Tovar expressed, “I’m eager to get back on the track in Monterrey. The Autódromo Monterrey always promises thrilling races, and I’m prepared to secure a favorable position. Despite the unexpected outcome in Puebla, we’re in a strategic position in the championship. A successful run in Monterrey could potentially elevate us to the top four. Consistency will be key in the upcoming races leading to the playoff. With a combination of strong finishes and favorable outcomes, we could emerge as title contenders or even achieve a victory, which remains one of our primary objectives this year.”

The leaderboard as the racers head to Monterrey is as follows: Salvador de Alba Jr. leads with 242 points, followed closely by German Quiroga with 232 points. Rubén García Jr. holds 203 points, Andrés Pérez de Lara has 201 points, Enrique Baca with 175 points, Xavi Razo at 173 points, Max Gutiérrez also with 173 points, Santiago Tovar with 173, Juan Manuel González with 172 points, and rounding off the top ten is Abraham Calderón with 171 points.
