Hamlin’s Right Arm on Pitstop: A Comeback Story

Update on Hamlin’s Recovery: Clash Participation in Question

The silence broke on the record of injuries for NASCAR Cup Series top driver Denny Hamlin. Hamlin appeared in Nashville donning a soft brace to immobilize his right arm. He went under the knife a week ago to fix an ongoing injury to his rotator cuff, which was further irritated due to strained tendons he sustained while participating in sports right before the Oct. 15 Las Vegas Playoff race.

Quiet about the injury throughout the season, Hamlin drove the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and didn’t want his performance during the Playoff to be attributed to his injury. Albeit, this past Thursday, he admitted that the post-surgery scenario has turned out to be more distressing and complex than he initially calculated.

The doctors have prescribed a rest period of three months, along with therapy, leaving Hamlin in a haze regarding his state come the Feb. 4 non-points Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum. Whether or not he will partake in the exhibition event is still an unsettled matter.

Hamlin remains hopeful, backed by a remarkable team who will work towards his recovery. He believes he can overcome the situation if he persevered through the challenging last five races of the season. Despite the discomfort, especially when requested to flip a switch beyond his reach, he battled against the odds and relied more on his left arm to round off the final leg of the 2023 Playoff calendar.

Finishing fifth in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series championship, Hamlin seized a victory in three races. Still, the injury affected his performance, compounding his customary control of the wheel using the right hand to being more inclined to use the left.
