The Diversity Pit Stop: NASCAR and Advance Auto Parts Team Up for Inclusive Racing Future

Fire up your curiosity engines because NASCAR puts the “diverse” in “drivers”! That’s right, the Advance Auto Parts Drive for Diversity Combine is back, and it’s got a lineup that’s as colorful as a pit crew’s sock drawer.

Taking place from October 9-11 in the scenic locales of Concord, N.C., and Florence, S.C., this event is the talent show of the racing world. But instead of singing or dancing, these folks will be judged on their ability to turn left well. And let’s not forget the other skills like media handling, physical fitness, and marketing prowess. It’s like “America’s Got Talent,” but with more horsepower and less Simon Cowell.

NASCAR’s VP of Diversity and Inclusion, Brandon Thompson, said, “It’s a strong group of young talent, and we’re excited by the level of competition we hope to see over the three-day combine.” Max Siegel, the owner of Rev Racing, also chimed in with his enthusiasm about the growth of his race team and the high level of participating athletes.

The program started in 2004 and has been a launchpad for drivers like Bubba Wallace, Daniel Suárez, and Kyle Larson. So, if you’re a young gun with dreams of Victory Lane, this is your golden ticket.

Advance Auto Parts, the entitlement sponsor of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series, is also on board for the second year. Samantha Avivi, Advance’s Chief Marketing Officer, expressed delight in participating in a program that aligns with their brand’s focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The 2023 combine features a diverse set of drivers, from 16-year-old Lanie Buice of Jackson, Georgia, to 20-year-old Regina Sirvent from Mexico City, Mexico. A panel of NASCAR executives and industry members will put them through the wringer, who will evaluate them based on applications, references, and previous on-track performance.

The future of NASCAR is looking as bright as a freshly waxed hood, and it’s thanks to initiatives like these, we can look forward to a more inclusive and exciting racing world.
