The Checkers and Cheers: Blaney’s First NASCAR Cup Title Amid Chastain’s Phoenix Win

Runner-up Delight: Blaney Grabs NASCAR Cup Title while Chastain Triumphs at Phoenix

Marking a departure from a 10-year tradition, the NASCAR Cup Series Title winner failed to grab the title race, which seemed to matter little to 2023’s champion, Ryan Blaney. Despite finishing second in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race, his pride in securing the much-coveted title was palpable. This victory gives Team Penske its third NASCAR Cup Series Title and second consecutively and also ensures Ford a clean sweep at the Phoenix Raceway Championship Weekend.

While Blaney basked in the glory of his win, Ross Chastain enjoyed his second victory lap of the season, pulling ahead of Kyle Larson and William Byron on the last 31 laps for a victory claim.

Blaney edged past the 2021 champion Kyle Larson, securing second place just behind Chastain, who surged ahead of Denny Hamlin for the top spot. [“Unbelievable year, unbelievable Playoffs for us,” said Blaney]. The triumph was a testament to the team’s resolve and resilience.

The race on Lap 108 saw a twist as Bell fell out of the race, leaving Blaney, Byron, and Larson dueling for the championship. Despite solid performances, none could steer clear of Blaney’s superior car and driving prowess.
